When fifty minutes isn't enough

Weekly therapy is a good rhythm for a lot of people. But sometimes fifty minutes is just long enough to open something up, and not long enough to set it back down. You spend the start of each session finding your way back, and the end closing things up again.

An intensive gives the work room. Instead of weekly appointments, we spend about three hours a day, over one to three days, focused on what you came to heal. Some people come because weekly sessions don't fit their work or travel. Some want momentum early on. Some have done years of talk therapy and feel ready for something deeper.

It can be exactly what you want and need it to be. Some clients travel to Colorado Springs, book a quiet place to stay, and plan gentle things around the sessions. Others do it from home, online. If none of our formats fit, we'll build one with you.

How an intensive unfolds

Before, during, and after.

Deep work needs a good container. Every intensive has three parts, so you're never just dropped into the deep end and left there.

01

Before: getting ready.

We meet first to name your hopes for the intensive, get a sense of where you are, and practice the skills that will help you stay steady. Then we build your treatment plan together.

02

During: the deep work.

We review the plan and dive in, often with EMDR and parts work. You're guided every step of the way, we pause to ground whenever you need, and you keep your agency throughout.

03

After: taking it home.

We reflect on what shifted and how you're feeling about it, and take time to savor the deep work you did. Then we talk about what support looks like next.

Deep work, held well.

Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence.

How we pace the work

Intensive doesn't mean "overwhelming."

  • Your window of tolerance sets the pace.

We work at the edge of what feels manageable, never past it. If it gets to be too much, we slow down.

  • Grounding is built in.

Breaks, breath, and coming back to the present are part of the plan from the start, not an afterthought.

  • Your agency stays with you.

You choose what we work on and how far we go. You can pause or change course at any point.

Is an intensive a fit?

An intensive might be right for you.

An intensive may help if...

  • Weekly therapy doesn't fit your work, travel, or season of life.
  • You want momentum early in your healing.
  • You've done talk therapy and feel ready for deeper, focused work.
  • A specific trauma or season of spiritual abuse keeps pulling you back.
  • You can set aside a few days, and a little quiet around them.

Something else might come first if…

  • You're in immediate danger or crisis right now (please call or text 988, or 911).
  • You need a higher level of care, like intensive outpatient or medical support.
  • Life feels too unsteady right now to add deep work. Weekly therapy might be a gentler place to start.
  • You'd rather go slowly, week by week. Individual therapy is a wonderful fit for that.

Not sure? That's what the free consultation is for. We'll figure it out together, with no pressure either way.

Why I offer intensives

“So often, clients get close to something important right as the hour runs out. An intensive gives us time to stay with it, gently, until it can actually shift.”

Yes. Intensives are available online for clients in Florida, Missouri, and Colorado, and in person in Colorado Springs. Some people travel in and make a few quiet days of it.

Then we slow down. Staying within your window of tolerance matters more than getting through a plan. Grounding and breaks are built in, and you can pause at any time.
